Between May 6 and May 12, the Scottish Government consecutively approved four large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects totaling 905MW in capacity, all located in wind-rich regions of eastern and northeastern Scotland.

The approved projects include:

1、Mossmorran BESS (300MW): Developed by UK asset manager Gresham House in Fife.

2、Kintore Energy Storage Facility (300MW): Developed by Alcemi Storage Developments in Aberdeenshire, with flexible configuration approval for 600MWh-1.2GWh capacity. Alcemi has now secured approvals for 3.6GWh of storage projects across the UK and plans to expand into the German market.

3、Kinmuck BESS (105MW/420MWh): Developed by Island Green Power to balance wind power fluctuations in Aberdeenshire.

4、Salters BESS (200MW): Developed by Scotland's largest landowner Buccleuch near Edinburgh, focusing on addressing regional grid congestion issues.

Scotland has become the UK's primary hub for energy storage projects, with total reserve capacity exceeding 120GWh. The capacity of operational, under-construction, and planned storage projects in Scotland is expected to maintain steady growth through 2025.
