Solar manufacturer Gstar Solar has officially commenced commercial production at its solar cell and module facility located in Subic Bay, west of Metro Manila in the Philippines.

Developed in two phases, the first phase of the project includes an annual nameplate capacity of 1.5GW for solar cells and 1GW for modules. The fully automated production lines are designed for flexible module switching, high-throughput output, and cost-efficient manufacturing.

Gstar Solar also revealed plans for a second phase, which will add an additional 2GW of module production capacity at the same site. However, the company has not yet announced a timeline for this expansion.

The facility is currently focused on manufacturing high-efficiency N-type solar modules. These modules feature 183.75mm N-type cells in a 72-cell bifacial dual-glass format, delivering a power output of 595W and a conversion efficiency of 23.03%.

Incorporating advanced technologies such as laser non-destructive scribing, super multi-busbar (SMBB) design, and high-density encapsulation, the modules offer excellent bifaciality, enhanced low-light performance, and lower temperature coefficients.

Mass production of the new modules is scheduled to begin on May 18, 2025.
