Nigeria has launched a tender process for a 100 MW solar power scheme located in Maikunkele, Niger State, as part of the state‑led Niger State Solar Energy Development Project.
The procurement exercise is divided into two separate lots. One lot encompasses engineering, construction and installation works for the solar generating plant itself. The second lot covers build‑out of grid connection and power evacuation infrastructure required to feed generated power into the national network.
Funding for the development is being sought via financing support from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). The Nigerian government plans to allocate portions of the loan proceeds to settle payments for contract awards arising from this tender round.
Interested bidders may obtain complete pre‑qualification documentation upon payment of a non‑refundable fee, priced at NGN 250,000 or its USD 200 equivalent. All pre‑qualification submissions must be physically delivered by post no later than October 13. Invitations to formal bid are planned to take place in January 2027.
Latest data from the Africa Solar Industry Association (AFSIA) shows Nigeria’s operational solar capacity stands at 4.9 GW. Another 188 MW of solar assets are presently under construction across the country, underscoring ongoing momentum for utility‑scale solar deployment within the nation.
