Japanese chemical firm Tokuyama has officially inaugurated its new polysilicon production plant in Vietnam. First unveiled in 2024, the site is situated within Phu My 3 Special Industrial Park in Ho Chi Minh City, focused on manufacturing and distributing polysilicon materials for semiconductor applications.

According to the company’s official statement, against the backdrop of projected growth in the global semiconductor market, the new plant is built to guarantee stable supply of raw‑material silicon for advanced semiconductors and reinforce global supply chains. It serves as a key overseas base specialising in polysilicon crushing and cleaning processes.

Safety will be prioritised as the facility moves forward with trial operations and comprehensive quality inspections. Total project capital investment amounts to VND 580 billion, equivalent to $22.2 million. Tokuyama noted this is Vietnam’s‑first manufacturing and distribution facility dedicated to semiconductor‑grade polysilicon. While the firm keeps official capacity undisclosed, local media reports estimate its annual output at 4,995 metric tonnes.

The Vietnam project forms part of Tokuyama’s expanding Asian manufacturing footprint. Last year, the company kicked off construction of a 10,000‑MT polysilicon plant in Malaysia in joint partnership with Korean polysilicon producer OCI. OCI’s Malaysian subsidiary OCIM Sdn Bhd currently runs a 35,000‑MT polysilicon plant at Sarawak’s Samalaju Industrial Park, an asset originally acquired from Tokuyama back in 2016.
