US commercial electric vehicle maker Xos has rolled out a new behind-the-meter energy storage product tailored for data centers, addressing critical power deployment barriers including lengthy grid connection waits and limited gas turbine availability.
Named Xos Power Hub, the modular energy storage system comes in three capacity configurations: 1.2 MWh, 2.5 MWh and 4.0 MWh models. The 1.2 MWh unit delivers a 0.6 MW power output, while the 2.5 MWh version provides up to 1.2 MW of power output.
Each Power Hub unit is fully integrated with power conversion systems, plant controls and generator dispatch logic, featuring a standard 480 V three-phase output. Packaged in a standard intermodal container, the product adopts the same core architecture as Xos’ mobile EV charging platform Xos Hub, enabling rapid on-site commissioning within just a few days.
To date, Xos has deployed over 250 MWh of energy storage capacity across North America, serving utility, fleet, government and industrial clients. The company highlighted that prolonged grid connection delays for data centers and industrial facilities have created strong market demand for flexible, mobile and modular energy storage solutions.
