EDF Power Solutions is set to purchase up to 20 GWh of energy storage from Ford Energy, the new battery energy storage system (BESS) business of automotive giant Ford Motor Company.

The deal comes after Ford Energy unveiled its new containerized BESS product in early May 2026. Its flagship product, the Ford Energy DC Block, is a standardized 20-foot containerized BESS constructed with 512 Ah lithium iron phosphate (LFP) prismatic cells, initially available in two configurations: the two-hour FE-250 and the four-hour FE-450.

Lisa Drake, President of Ford Energy, commented on the agreement, stating it “validates the market’s need for a BESS supplier that combines industrial-scale manufacturing discipline with full lifecycle accountability.” She added, “We are not simply delivering hardware. We are delivering the kind of predictable quality and long-term operational confidence that grid operators and large-scale developers require. Ford Energy was purpose-built to serve customers who cannot afford uncertainty in their energy storage supply chain.”

Ford Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company first announced in December 2025, focuses on supplying US-assembled battery storage to utilities, data centers, and large commercial and industrial customers. It plans to invest approximately $2 billion over the next two years to expand its business, has set a 20 GWh annual deployment target, and expects to make its first customer deliveries in late 2027.
