Nofar USA, a subsidiary of Nofar Energy, and Qcells USA, a subsidiary of Hanwha Qcells, have entered into an agreement to develop and construct two Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Texas, with a combined capacity of 350MW/700MWh.
The projects, which were initiated and developed by Qcells, are currently in the final stages of interconnection approval. Qcells will continue to support the development and deployment, while Nofar, as the sponsor and sole owner, plans to begin construction later this year, with the goal of bringing the projects online by 2027.
The two projects, Bracero Pecan (230MW/460MWh) in Reeves County and Fairway (120MW/240MWh) in Freestone County, merge Qcells’ development expertise with Nofar’s financial and operational strengths. Strategically located, Bracero Pecan, situated south of Pecos in ERCOT West, and Fairway, approximately 60 miles southeast of Dallas in ERCOT North, are positioned to enhance grid resilience and provide crucial support to Texas' growing renewable energy sector. Bracero Pecan will interconnect with AEP, while Fairway will connect with Oncor, linking the assets to two major electricity transmission networks in the state.
Allon Raveh, executive chairman of Nofar USA, expressed excitement about the collaboration, saying: “We are thrilled to partner with Qcells on the development of these premier utility-scale battery projects in Texas. By leveraging Nofar’s global expertise in energy storage, these well-located projects are primed for rapid deployment, ensuring both quick market entry and strong value creation for our shareholders.”
IP Kim, President of Qcells USA Corp., commented on the project, stating, “These projects will bring significant benefits to the Texas power grid and the local markets where they will be built.”
