Romania’s energy storage market continues to climb the ranks of Europe’s most active, following a new agreement between Sungrow and Enevo Group for the supply of 1 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) across multiple projects in the country.
The partnership will be implemented in two phases. The first phase covers 440 MWh of storage capacity, contracted earlier this year and scheduled for completion by December 2026. The second phase will deliver the remaining 560 MWh, although its timeline has not yet been disclosed and is expected to follow after 2026. All projects will deploy Sungrow’s liquid-cooled PowerTitan 2.0 system, which was first introduced in Europe in late 2024.
The deal aligns with Romania’s broader efforts to strengthen grid stability and accelerate energy transition goals. The country is targeting 5 GW of installed energy storage capacity by the end of 2026, supported by funding programs from the Ministry of Energy. Recent government tenders have allocated €150 million tranches for both standalone and co-located storage projects, alongside initiatives at the municipal level.
Policy developments have also contributed to market momentum. The removal of double taxation on stored electricity in July 2025, combined with the commissioning of a 400 MWh project in Cluj later that year, has helped create a more favorable investment environment. The newly announced 1 GWh pipeline represents the next stage in scaling Romania’s storage market.
For Enevo Group, already active as an EPC contractor in large-scale solar projects across Romania, the agreement further deepens its collaboration with Sungrow.
“Successful partnerships begin with a vision, shared goals, and a clear understanding of market evolution. Our collaboration with Sungrow started in the solar sector and has now developed into a broader strategic partnership,” said Radu Brasoveanu. “We are now expanding this with our 1 GWh battery storage contract. Together, we are integrating battery storage systems more closely with renewable energy generation. At the same time, this collaboration supports Enevo’s goal of establishing itself as an EPC contractor for large-scale battery storage projects in the region.”
The agreement also strengthens Sungrow’s presence in Eastern Europe.
“The trust of our partners forms the foundation of our continuous growth,” said James Li. “We are pleased to work with Enevo Group on this pioneering 1 GWh project portfolio in Romania. Our team supports the projects through all phases—from design and delivery to commissioning, ensuring long-term project success and enhancing energy resilience.”
