The government has launched the LSS5+ (Large Scale Solar) program, bringing 2,000MW of new capacity to the country — more than double the previous round. Looking ahead, the momentum continues: the LSS-6 bidding round is expected to begin as early as the second quarter of 2025, offering further opportunities for industry players to contribute to Malaysia’s energy transition.
One critical requirement for participation in these projects should be noted: local ownership. To qualify:
· Bidders must be companies incorporated in Malaysia, holding at least 51% Malaysian equity; or
· A consortium that includes at least one Malaysian-registered company meeting the same equity criteria.
These policies reflect the government’s focus on fostering local participation and strengthening the domestic renewable energy supply chain.
