Pakistan has imported a cumulative 51.5 GW of solar modules from China as of November 2025, according to data from energy think tank Renewables First.
Insights from Renewables First’s solar analytics portal show that Chinese solar module imports have accelerated over Pakistan’s last two fiscal years. By the end of the most recent fiscal year in June 2025, the country had imported 48 GW of modules, with associated costs exceeding $2 billion.
However, Pakistan’s total solar capacity remains unclear due to limited tracking of behind-the-meter and off-grid installations. Official data is currently only available for net-metering capacity, which stood at 6.8 GW as of September 2025.
This trend underscores Pakistan’s growing reliance on Chinese solar technology to meet its renewable energy goals, highlighting both opportunities and challenges in expanding clean energy deployment across the country.
