Mauritius CEB Launches Tender for 2 MW Hybrid Rooftop Solar Project on Rodrigues Island

The Central Electricity Board (CEB) of Mauritius has issued a tender for the development of grid-connected, roof-mounted hybrid solar photovoltaic systems.

According to the tender documentation, the project will involve the deployment of solar installations with a total combined capacity of 2 MW on Rodrigues Island, located east of the main island of Mauritius. The selected contractor will be responsible for the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the solar systems.

The tender also includes an optional lot for the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of modular battery energy storage systems (BESS), with a cumulative capacity of up to 1 MWh.

The project will be delivered on a turnkey basis, with the solar systems to be installed on various public buildings. Individual system capacities are expected to range from 5 kW to 50 kW.

Financing for the project will be provided through a grant from the Green Climate Fund, supplemented by additional investment from the government of Mauritius. Interested bidders are required to submit their proposals electronically by February 2, 2026.

Mauritius currently has 168.5 MW of operational solar capacity, according to data from the Africa Solar Industry Association (AFSIA).

In a separate development, CEB issued a warning in November regarding the increasing number of unauthorized solar installations across the country. The utility stated that systems not registered by January 15, 2026, may be subject to disconnection.
