Trina Solar and French manufacturer Holosolis have signed a strategic cooperation agreement during the recent France–China summit, strengthening the Chinese solar company’s role in developing a planned 5 GW photovoltaic gigafactory in France.
Holosolis, founded in 2023 by the InnoEnergy group and two additional partners, formalized the partnership in early December as part of broader infrastructure and industrial discussions between French President Emmanuel Macron and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The agreement confirms Trina Solar as a key participant in the gigafactory project, which French authorities have previously designated as being of “national interest,” making it eligible for government support. Details of the partnership, including Trina Solar’s investment amount, were not disclosed.
The facility aims to reach 5 GW of annual production capacity for solar cells and modules — roughly equivalent to 10 million panels per year. The site is expected to create approximately 2,000 direct jobs, positioning it among the largest and most ambitious initiatives within Europe’s emerging green industrial manufacturing sector.
Trina Solar said it will provide specialized technical support to ensure the project is executed to “the most advanced standards.” The partnership builds on earlier collaboration in the summer, when Holosolis acquired Trina Solar’s TOPCon (tunnel oxide passivated contact) patents to underpin its planned technology platform.
