Kiyona Energy Launches Tender for 25 MW Solar Project in Zambia

Zambian renewable energy developer Kiyona Energy Limited has opened a tender for the development of a 25 MW solar power plant in Lusaka.

According to available tender documents, the selected bidder will undertake an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the facility, which is planned near the Waterworks substation along the 132 kV wayleave in the capital city.

Interested applicants must pay a participation fee of ZMW 1,000 (USD 43.23), and submissions are due by January 9, 2026.

Information on Kiyona Energy’s website indicates the company has 302 MW of renewable energy projects expected to reach commercial operation. Earlier this month, the developer signed a memorandum of understanding with the Zambian Army that includes land allocation for three solar initiatives: a 30 MW utility-scale project, a 4 MW system for water pumping, and a 5 MW plant under Zambia’s Green Cities Initiative.

Data from the Africa Solar Industry Association (AFSIA) shows that Zambia currently has 391.3 MW of operational solar capacity. Of this, 332 MW is from large-scale installations, including a 100 MW project commissioned in May.
