Alight has officially switched on the 215 MW Lidsø solar park in the southern Danish municipality of Lolland, marking the country’s second-largest operational photovoltaic facility to date.

Construction of the Lidsø project began in the summer of 2024. Developed and built by Denmark-based European Energy, the solar park will supply electricity to Danish State Railways (DSB) through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), Alight said in a statement.

According to the company, the site consists of approximately 350,000 solar panels and supports more than 1,700 sheep grazing year-round. The facility is owned and operated by Alight, with debt financing provided by SEB and SEK Svensk Exportkredit.

Alight acquired the project from European Energy in March for an undisclosed amount.

“With Lidsø, we mark Alight’s entry into the Danish market – and this is just the beginning,” said European Energy Deputy CEO Jens-Peter Zink. “We are committed to scaling PPA-backed solar power across the Nordics and helping energy-intensive businesses transition to reliable, cost-effective renewable power.”

Denmark’s largest operating PV installation remains the 304 MW Kassø Solar Park, located near Kassø, southwest of Rødekro.

Alight has stated its ambition to surpass 5 GW of installed capacity by the end of the decade.
