The SMA Group has introduced a significant new offering to the European market, launching the MVPS-9200, a containerized "turnkey" solution designed to streamline the construction and operation of utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) power plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The new solution responds directly to the growing industry need for highly integrated, power-dense equipment that can simplify logistics and accelerate deployment schedules across the continent.
The MVPS-9200 integrates two high-performance inverters, two transformers, and a complete medium-voltage (MV) distribution system into a single standard shipping container. This compact design is engineered to provide EPCs and project developers with double the electrical power capacity within one unified unit, substantially simplifying power plant design and installation complexity.
Strategic European Production and Advanced Technology
The development and manufacturing of the MVPS-9200 platform are supported by a key partnership with Italian medium-voltage expert CEP, ensuring the solution is produced entirely within Europe. This regional manufacturing base offers greater supply chain stability for European projects.
Designed for high-performance, large-scale infrastructure, the unit supports DC voltage levels of 1500 V and is built for high availability. Configuration flexibility is ensured through the integration of specific SMA inverters—either the Sunny Central UP for PV applications or the Sunny Central Storage UP/UP-S for BESS systems.
"The rollout of the MVPS-9200 marks a clear response to the demand for smarter, more integrated hardware in the large-scale renewables sector," stated a leading Industry Analyst who tracks European energy infrastructure. "By embedding double the power into a single container, SMA is addressing both the footprint challenge and the speed of installation. Furthermore, the use of advanced SiC-MOSFET technology in the BESS inverter options demonstrates a commitment to maximizing operational efficiency and reducing long-term costs."
Operational Resilience and Maintenance
The solution offers crucial benefits in operational resilience. Available in power classes up to the MVPS-9200, the container features a specialized four-field medium voltage distribution installation. This architecture provides a distinct maintenance advantage: it allows 50% of the total system power to remain active and generating/storing power while necessary maintenance work is safely conducted on the other half of the system.
This focus on operational continuity is expected to be a major differentiator for asset owners aiming to maximize uptime and profitability across their BESS and PV portfolios.
