Independent power producer (IPP) Grenergy has reached an agreement to sell an 88MW solar PV portfolio in Colombia to the country’s state-owned oil and energy company Ecopetrol.

The portfolio consists of seven solar PV projects, which will be delivered individually and in stages throughout 2026. As part of the deal, Grenergy will continue to provide operations and maintenance (O&M) services for the entire portfolio for up to two years.

Despite the sale, Grenergy will maintain a strong presence in Colombia, where it has 12 additional plants at various stages of development, totalling 150MW of capacity.

This transaction forms part of the Spanish IPP’s 2025–2027 asset rotation strategy, bringing the company closer to achieving its target of rotating more than 60% of its assets during the period.

One of Grenergy’s most significant asset rotation efforts involves its flagship Oasis de Atacama solar-plus-storage complex in northern Chile’s Atacama Desert—one of the world’s premier solar regions.

Over the past year, Grenergy has sold the first four phases of this massive 2GW/11GWh project. In December 2024, the company sold the first three phases—totalling 451MW of solar PV and 2.5GWh of battery energy storage (BESS)—to ContourGlobal, a subsidiary of investment firm KKR.

The fourth phase, known as Gabriela, was sold in September 2025 to CVC DIF, the infrastructure investment arm of asset manager CVC. This phase includes 272MW of solar PV and 1.1GWh of BESS.
