Ireland to Maintain €1,800 Rooftop Solar Grant Through 2026

The Irish government has confirmed that rooftop solar grants for households will remain at €1,800 in 2026, keeping support at current levels for another year. The decision aligns with key recommendations made by Solar Ireland, the country’s solar industry association, in its pre-Budget submissions.

Solar Ireland CEO Ronan Power welcomed the announcement, calling it “sensible and hugely positive,” noting that small-scale rooftop systems continue to play a vital role in Ireland’s renewable energy strategy. Prior concerns had suggested that the government might gradually reduce the grant by €300 per year as solar panel prices declined.

Ireland recently surpassed 2 GW of cumulative installed solar capacity, with more than 800 MW deployed on homes and businesses. The grants are administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) under the Microgeneration Support Scheme, launched in 2022.

Power emphasized that maintaining the grant will support households at risk of energy poverty while ensuring installations continue to meet SEAI’s quality and regulatory standards. “It’s a decision that supports both households and the wider clean-energy transition… This certainty for 2026 will keep solar affordable for households and maintain strong oversight across the industry,” he said. He added that Solar Ireland will continue working with policymakers as planning for 2027 and beyond begins.

Ireland’s 2026 Budget, released in October 2025, allocates more than €1 billion to renewable energy, including grid modernization, international interconnection initiatives, and domestic energy upgrade programs.
