After launching production at its Shanghai energy storage factory last month, Tesla is going to build a new BESS facility in the U.S.

Waller County, Texas, have approved a tax deal for Tesla to build and operate a Megapack factory in an industrial park owned by Real Property Improvements. Tesla already leases the 1-million-sq-ft building through logistics firm DB Schenker.

The package was approved at a meeting of the Waller County Commissioners Court yeasterday(5 March).

The tax abatement covers two phases: the first involves $44M in facility upgrades, including grid connection and HVAC, plus $150M for Megapack manufacturing equipment. The second phase includes a $31M distribution facility and $2M in equipment and upgrades.

The deal depends on an agreement with Brookfield. If approved, the factory is expected to employ 1,500 workers by year three.
