The Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has updated its Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II for solar cells, adding 4.8GW of annual nameplate capacity.

This marks the first revision of the solar cell ALMM list, which was launched in August 2025 with 13GW of capacity across six manufacturers. The ALMM is a government-led framework that identifies manufacturers, primarily based in India, whose products qualify for use in government-supported solar projects.

The latest update includes two new entries, both linked to Tata Power. TP Solar has added nearly 4.5GW of mono PERC solar cell capacity and 53MW of TOPCon solar cell capacity, while Tata Power Renewable Energy contributed 280MW of mono PERC capacity. The facilities are located in the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

According to MNRE data, TP Solar’s PERC and TOPCon cells deliver average efficiencies of 23.25% and 23.3%, respectively. Tata Power Renewable Energy’s PERC cells have an average efficiency of 22.89%.

The new additions join existing approved manufacturers including Adani, Emmvee, Premier Energies, Mundra Solar, ReNew, Jupiter International, and First Solar, which contributes 3.2GW of cadmium telluride thin-film capacity.

Overall, PERC technology continues to dominate the ALMM List-II, accounting for 11.2GW of approved capacity, while TOPCon technology contributes nearly 3.5GW.

India’s solar cell manufacturing sector has experienced rapid growth over the past year. MNRE data shows that annual solar cell nameplate capacity expanded from 9GW in March 2024 to 25GW by March 2025, with the ALMM List-II now covering more than half of the country’s operational solar cell capacity.
