European Power Prices Rise Across Most Markets in Early September

The weekly average electricity price increased across most major European markets during the second week of September, according to analysis by AleaSoft Energy Forecasting.

The Spanish consultancy reported price increases in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, and Spain compared to the previous week. The only exceptions were the UK and Nordic markets, where average prices declined week-on-week.

Despite the overall upward trend, most markets still posted averages below €75 ($88.27)/MWh. The Dutch (€85.92/MWh), German (€92.99/MWh), and Italian (€111.16/MWh) markets stood out as exceptions. France recorded the lowest average weekly price at just €26.36/MWh.

AleaSoft attributed the rise in electricity prices to higher natural gas and CO₂ emission allowance prices, combined with increased demand in certain markets and reduced solar generation in France, Germany, and Italy.

Looking ahead, the consultancy expects electricity prices to ease across most markets in the third week of September, driven mainly by lower demand.

On the renewables side, solar generation surged in the Iberian Peninsula. Both Spain and Portugal set new September records for daily solar output: Portugal reached 25 GWh on September 9, while Spain hit 193 GWh on September 12.
