Azerbaijani authorities are collaborating with Sichuan Sunsync Photovoltaic Technology Co., a solar cell and module manufacturer from China’s Sichuan province, to build an export-focused PV module factory in a free economic zone near Baku.
According to a statement from the president’s office, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev recently met with Xie Yi, founder and chairman of Sichuan Sunsync, in Tianjin, China, to discuss the initiative.
The facility, located south of the Azerbaijani capital on the Caspian Sea coast, will be developed to meet modern technological standards. The Azerbaijani government said that the majority of its output will be directed toward export markets.
Xie Yi emphasized that the investment decision reflects Azerbaijan’s favorable business environment and the strengthening of strategic ties between Azerbaijan and China. However, neither party disclosed the financial details of the agreement.
Separately, Russian news agency Interfax reported that the venture will result in one of Azerbaijan’s first large-scale solar manufacturing sites.
Based in Yibin, Sichuan Sunsync specializes in the production of tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) solar cells and modules. The company also provides integrated solar power systems and energy storage solutions tailored for utility-scale, commercial, and residential applications.
