Norwegian energy company Statkraft has agreed to sell its Netherlands solar portfolio of 120MWp to Dutch renewable energy supplier Greenchoice.

The two companies signed a share purchase agreement covering Statkraft’s renewable energy development activities in the Netherlands. The transaction includes 120MWp of operating solar assets, a pipeline of solar, wind, and battery projects, as well as the transfer of Statkraft’s local development team.

The deal is expected to close in autumn 2025, with financial details undisclosed. Statkraft said it will continue its market operations in the Netherlands but will scale back its hydrogen activities.

I am very pleased that we have agreed to sell our portfolios of solar, wind and storage projects in the Netherlands to a company which will use this business as a platform for further growth, said Barbara Flesche, executive vice president for Europe at Statkraft.

The move comes as Statkraft reports weaker quarterly results. In Q2 2025, the company’s power generation fell to 15.2TWh, down from 21.7TWh in the first quarter. Hydropower contributed 12.6TWh, slightly higher than the same period in 2024, but overall production declined.

As a result, Statkraft’s underlying EBITDA dropped to US$440 million, compared with US$1.1 billion in Q1.
