AMEA Power has commissioned Egypt’s inaugural 300 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) ahead of schedule, marking a major milestone for renewable energy in North Africa. The solar-powered facility extends the company’s existing 500MW solar plant in Aswan – Egypt’s largest operational single-site PV project.
The project achieved financial close prior to commissioning, reinforcing AMEA Power’s strategy to enhance grid stability and energy security across emerging markets. Integrated with the Aswan solar farm, the solar-plus-storage complex supports Egypt’s 2035 Sustainable Energy Strategy.
"This landmark project strengthens Egypt’s electricity grid resilience and advances our commitment to Africa’s clean energy transition," stated AMEA Power Chairman Hussain Al Nowais.
Financed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the deployment represents AMEA Power’s first utility-scale storage project in North Africa and expands the company’s growing renewable portfolio across the continent.
