The National Consumer Protection Agency of Indonesia (BKPN) will coordinate at least US$1 billion in investment to support the deployment of off-grid solar-plus-storage systems across rural and island regions of the country.

The initiative was revealed as China-based battery manufacturer and energy storage provider Elong Power signed a strategic cooperation agreement with BKPN on July 8. The agreement outlines plans to promote clean energy access for remote areas of Indonesia and support the country’s energy transition.

Although the agreement does not represent a binding purchase commitment, it expresses the intent for BKPN to work with national agencies to facilitate large-scale investments in solar and battery storage projects. Elong Power would serve as the technology partner, supplying integrated energy storage systems and technical solutions.

According to Elong Power, the partnership will also support policy formulation for widespread adoption of lithium-ion battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the mining sector and beyond, helping Indonesia accelerate its clean energy goals.

Founded in 2014 in Jiangxi, China, Elong Power specializes in lithium battery energy storage and was listed on the US NASDAQ exchange in 2023. The company also aims to attract investment from other Chinese clean energy firms into Southeast Asia, leveraging its technical capabilities and strategic networks.

This development follows the Indonesian government’s ratification of PLN’s national electricity supply business plan, which sets the framework for accelerating renewable and decentralized power infrastructure.
