Dutch developer Lion Storage has secured financial close for the 1.4GWh Mufasa project, one of Europe's largest BESS.
Mufasa is the first fully funded large-scale battery storage project in the Netherlands, with a total value exceeding €350M.
Located in Vlissingen, Zeeland, the project replaces a former coal plant's grid connection and supports renewable energy transit.
With 350MW/1.4GWh capacity, Mufasa will power over 200,000 households and is set to operate by mid-2027.
Arno Hendriks, co-founder of Lion Storage, stated: "Project Mufasa is a transformative development for battery storage in the Netherlands. As the first fully funded project, it demonstrates that energy storage is not only viable but also presents a compelling investment opportunity."
Jeroen Althoff, co-founder, further emphasized: "Through advanced technology and strategic partnerships, we’re creating a smarter, more resilient energy system, setting a new benchmark for the future of energy storage in Europe."
