Indian solar manufacturer Premier Energies has commissioned a new 1.2GW TOPCon solar cell production line at Fab City in Hyderabad, Telangana, marking a significant step in its expansion strategy.

The advanced facility is expected to deliver solar cells with over 25% efficiency, utilizing a 16-busbar design that boosts power output. With the addition of this line, Premier Energies’ total solar cell manufacturing capacity has increased from 2GW to 3.2GW annually.

The new production line features “AI-enabled architecture,” according to Chiranjeev Saluja, CEO of Premier Energies, highlighting the company’s focus on innovation and automation in manufacturing.

In a move to reduce dependency on a single source of supply, Premier Energies has sourced 60% of the key equipment for this facility from Europe. “Diversifying the key equipment supply chain is a strategic priority,” said Sudhir Reddy, Chief Strategy Officer.

Headquartered in New Delhi, Premier Energies plans to significantly scale up its manufacturing footprint. By June next year, the company aims to reach an annual capacity of 8.4GW for solar cells and 11.1GW for modules — more than doubling its current output.
