Sunrev Solar to Build $200 Million Solar Cell, Module Hub in Egypt

Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer Sunrev Solar has unveiled plans to establish a large-scale, integrated solar component industrial complex in Ain Sokhna, located within Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).

A signing ceremony held last week marked the agreement between Sunrev Solar and the Egyptian government, with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly in attendance. The event also celebrated the laying of the cornerstone for the complex.

The project will be developed in two phases:

· Phase One will involve the construction of two integrated factories with a production capacity of 2 GW of solar cells and 2 GW of solar modules. This stage is slated for completion in the first half of 2026.

· Phase Two will localize production of key upstream materials, including silicon ingots and wafers.

Together, the two phases will span 200,000 square meters. The total investment is estimated at $200 million, with $90 million allocated for the first phase and $110 million for the second. According to the Egyptian State Information Service, the project will create over 1,800 direct jobs, and the export of solar products from the complex is expected to generate around $300 million in annual revenues.

He Fei, Managing Director of Sunrev Solar, emphasized the companys commitment to leveraging advanced solar technology, stating: We aim to combine Chinese speed and Egyptian wisdom to efficiently achieve the projects objectives.

Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the SCZone, highlighted the strategic importance of the development, describing it as both an industrial and socio-economic milestone: The choice of Sokhna reflects its competitive advantages, including its strategic location, modern infrastructure, integration with Sokhna Port, and the incentives offered by the economic zone.

The project is positioned to play a pivotal role in Egypts ambitions to become a regional hub for clean energy manufacturing and exports.
