On June 23rd, the National Energy Administration (NEA) released the latest data showing that China's cumulative solar photovoltaic (PV) installed capacity has exceeded 1 terawatt (TW). As of the end of May 2025, the installed solar capacity reached 1.08 TW (1,080 gigawatts), representing a year-on-year increase of 56.9%.
In May alone, newly installed PV capacity was 92.92 GW. This is a sharp increase of 388.02% compared to the same period last year (which was 19.04 GW), and marks a significant jump of 105.48% compared to April's figures.
According to the national power industry statistics for January to May, by the end of May, China's total cumulative installed power generation capacity stood at 3.61 billion kilowatts (361 GW), reflecting an 18.8% increase year-on-year.
Within this, solar power generation capacity reached 1.08 billion kilowatts (108 GW), up 56.9% year-on-year.
