Singapore-based engineering and energy firm Sembcorp has secured its second solar-plus-storage hybrid project in India, following a successful bid in the latest tender issued by Indian public sector utility SJVN.
Sembcorp received a Letter of Award from SJVN for the development of 150MW of solar power capacity alongside a 300MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The award is part of SJVN’s recently concluded tender, which offered a total of 1,200MW of solar generation and 600MW/2,400MWh of battery storage capacity.
With this latest win, Sembcorp’s total renewable energy capacity in India will rise to 6.3GW. On a global scale, the company’s renewable energy portfolio now stands at 17.7GW, including both operational and under-development projects.
According to Sembcorp, the new hybrid project is expected to begin commercial operations within 24 months of signing the power purchase agreement (PPA). The project will be financed through a combination of internal funds and external borrowings.
This development reinforces Sembcorp’s continued expansion in the Indian renewable energy market and aligns with its broader global clean energy growth strategy.
