BYD Energy Storage has signed a landmark agreement with Spanish renewable energy developer Grenergy to supply 3.5GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) for the sixth phase of the Oasis de Atacama solar-plus-storage project in northern Chile.

This marks the largest single BESS procurement deal in Latin America and elevates the cumulative collaboration between the two companies to 6.5GWh, following BYD’s previous delivery of 3GWh for the project’s first three phases.

Under the agreement, BYD Energy Storage will supply 624 units of MC Cube-T BESS to Grenergy for deployment at the Elena solar-plus-storage plant.

The Elena solar-plus-storage plant stands as a pivotal component of the Oasis de Atacama initiative, integrating 446 MW photovoltaic capacity with 3.5 GWh energy storage capacity to enable 24/7 renewable power dispatch.

Delivery of the 624 MC Cube-T units is scheduled to begin in Q4 2025, with full commissioning targeted for 2026. The project’s completion is expected to power approximately 400,000 Chilean households annually while displacing 1.4 million metric tons of CO₂ emissions.
