According to energy storage research firm Rho Motion, nearly 9 GWh of global BESS capacity entered commercial operation in April 2025. This April's capacity represents a 13% increase compared to the same period last year.
China, the world’s largest energy storage market, commissioned 1,498 MW / 3,561 MWh in April. China’s cumulative BESS installations now stand at 106.9 GW / 240.3 GWh.
South and Central America region added 489 MW / 2,157 MWh, driven by projects in Chile.
Meanwhile, the Oceania region, mainly Australia, had its best month of 2025, deploying 494 MW / 1,097 MWh, including the 55 MW / 220 MWh Cunderdin solar-plus-storage project.
North America brought 609 MW / 1,613 MWh online in April, a significant drop from the previous month, while Europe added 224 MW / 421 MWh.
Overall, Rho Motion reported that 42 GWh of BESS has been deployed globally in the first four months of 2025, a 62% increase year-on-year.
